ATLANTA, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State volleyball team (6-8) played one last match to get ready for conference play against the cross-town rival Georgia Tech on Tuesday, September 23. The Jackets topped the Owls in three sets (13-25, 21-25, 17-25).

"The first set our kids took a set to adjust to the speed of the game," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "That's always a difference when you're playing a team like this. Then in the second and third sets our serve picked up quite a bit and we passed way way better. Our kids just started competing a little more and playing a little more free and going after it. When you go against a good team, if you have any hesitation or any disbelief in what you're doing the point is over, and it's too late. We competed in each of those sets and were neck and neck with them."

Freshman Anaiah Boyer had another strong showing as she finished the match leading the team with 11 kills hitting .524. She also added six digs and three blocks in the match.

Ria Ridley matched her career high with seven kills hitting .357.

Katarina Morton led the team with 14 digs, and Kristi Piedimonte had 18 assists.

After dropping the first set, the Owls matched the Jackets on points early in the second. Georgia Tech went on a run in the middle of the set, but Kennesaw State cut the lead to three twice before falling 21-25.

The third set was highlighted by a 5-1 run late in the set, forcing Tech to take a timeout before they closed out the match.

Kennesaw State will now turn its attention to conference play. The team will travel to USC Upstate and play on Saturday, September 27 at 3 p.m. The match will be shown on ESPN3 by the Spartans.
