LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team (5-6) dropped its opening match in the Seawolves Invite Presented by Islandia Marriot Long Island to Western Michigan in four sets (25-22, 15-25, 22-25, 21-25).

The Owls had 55 kills while hitting .300 as a team compared to the Broncos who had 50 kills and hit .330.

Kelly Marcinek led the way on kills with 16 while hitting .355. She also had nine digs in the match.
Anaiah Boyer continued her strong play as well finishing with 15 kills and hit a career high .387.

Kristi Piedimonte had 44 assists, nine digs and five kills.
Katarina Morton led the team with 18 digs.

Both teams traded points back and forth until late in the first set. With the score 18-17, the Owls went on a run to extend their lead to 21-17. Piedimonte clinched the first set for the Owls with one of her five kills on the afternoon.

After losing the second set, the Owls held leads in the third and fourth sets, but couldn't stop late runs by the Broncos, who ended up winning the match in four.

This Owls have a second match today against the host team, Stony Brook. The match is at 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted on Americaeast.tv.
