In the first match of the Coastal Carolina Tournament, the Kennesaw State volleyball team (4-4) lost to the Tennessee Volunteers 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 19-25).
 
Anaiah Boyer set a career high in kills with 16 while hitting .278. She was one dig away from having a double-double as she finished with nine. Kelly Marcinek also had 16 kills in the match.
 
Kristi Piedimonte filled up the stat sheet once again finishing with 41 assists, seven kills and six digs.
 
Katarina Morton led the team with 24 digs.
 
The Owls set the tone in the first set finishing with 18 kills and 15 assists by Piedimonte. Boyer hit .750 and finished with six kills to lead the Owls to a 25-22 win. With the Owls up 17-16, Boyer and Piedimonte spurred the Owls on 4-1 run to take a 21-18 lead. A couple of points later, Piedmonte got her third kill to clinch the set.
 
In the second set, it was close early at 7-6 and the Volunteers went on a 6-1 run to push their lead 14-7. The Owls got within two points late in the set, but couldn't get over the hump as Tennessee closed the set out 25-21.
 
Down by three at 15-12 in the third set, KSU went on a 4-0 on a couple of kills by Fanise Cannon and Chade Martin to force Tennessee to take a timeout. The teams would trade points back and forth and with the score tied at 23 late in the set, the Vols closed it out winning two straight points.
 
At 15-14 in the fourth set, Tennessee went on a 10-5 run to win the match.
 
Kennesaw State returns to the gym later tonight to play the host team in Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. Fans can follow along with the live stats. Originally, the game was schedule to be broadcasted on the Big South Network, but will not be broadcasted anymore.
