CONWAY, SC –
The Kennesaw State volleyball team (4-5) lost to Coastal Carolina on their home floor in four sets (15-25, 15-25, 26-24, 16-25) on Friday, September 12.

"Today was a pretty disappointing day for us obviously," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "This morning was an extremely winnable match and we had numerous opportunities to score points, to win sets and to come out on top of that match. Whether it was lack of maturity, lack of urgency, or lack of execution, we were unfortunately unable to. Tonight, we ran into a very good team in Coastal. They're the best-coached and trained team at this tournament. They have the best attackers in this tournament and other than a set three where we served very well and took them out of their rhythm; we got completely dominated in every facet of the game. On the positive side, our young team continues to show signs of improvement. Anaiah Boyer is doing an incredible job playing six rotations, taking a lot of swings and being a point scorer for us. Our setter Kristi Piedimonte is playing at a very high level and getting a lot of attackers involved in the offense, but in general we need more people to step up and terminate the ball. We'll get back at it tomorrow and be proud to wear the Owl jersey again."

After dropping the first two sets, the Owls came out in the third ready to fight. With the score tied at five, KSU went on a 6-0 run behind Toure Hopkins serving. After a kill by Boyer, the Owls had three set points, but the Chants held them off to tie the score at 24. Needing to win the set to stay alive in the match, KSU won the final two points to push the match to a fourth set.

In the fourth set, the Owls held an early lead, but Coastal went on a couple of runs to close out the match.

Boyer led the team with 14 kills and 14 digs. Kelly Marcinek also finished with double-digit kills with 11 and had eight digs.

Piedimonte finished her third double-double of the season with 26 assists and 11 digs.
