NASVHILLE, TENN. –
After a big win the night before against Belmont, the Kennesaw State volleyball team topped Evansville in four sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19) in their second match in the Belmont Invitational.

"Coming off an emotional win last night, the concern is always that your team is going to have a lapse in focus and energy," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "While I didn't feel like we were as engaged as we could've been, I was still happy with our mental preparation and overall mentality. Again, our offense struggled at times, but I felt like we came up with big kills and aggressive plays at the right times during the match which is encouraging. I thought Kristi Piedimonte did a very good job in her first collegiate start at setter, and I'm happy that we played consistent enough to come up with a four set win."

In the first set, the Owls won 27-25 after once again spoiling a set point and closed out the set on a 3-0 run.

The Owls trailed for much of the second set and faced an 18-14 deficit. The team responded with a 6-0 run for the second day in a row and ended up closing out the set on an 11-3 run behind Toure Hopkins and Fanise Cannon's service.

The third set was another close one and the Owls had two match points, but couldn't close it out as Evansville won the set 27-25.

The Owls didn't take control in the fourth set until late. With a 17-15 lead, Hopkins stepped up again with her serves as the Owls went on another run to stretch out their lead to 22-15. Looking to close out the match, KSU turned to Kelly Marcinek and she delivered with two more kills to give her 19 in the match to give the Owls the win.

Fanise Cannon had her second match in a row with double-digit kills as she finished with 12 and also added 13 digs against Evansville.

Kristi Piedimonte finished with 42 assists and had seven kills in her first collegiate start.

Katarina Morton once again led the way with 21 digs.
