NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team lost its third game in the Belmont Invitational to Youngstown State to finish the weekend 2-1.
Kelly Marcinek,
Katarina Morton and
Megan McGuinness were all named to the Belmont Invitational All-Tournament team.
"This was a good weekend for us in many ways," head coach
Keith Schunzel said. "We battled our hearts out and won an intense road match last night, played solid in a four set victory this morning and simply got out played by Youngstown State this afternoon, who is slightly ahead of us right now, which is ok because I feel really good about the direction our team is moving. We faced a lot of adversity this weekend and I love the way our team responded time after time. We will look at film, keep learning and improving, and look forward to putting on the Kennesaw State jersey again Tuesday Night."
The Owls jumped out to an early lead in the first set, but Youngstown State took control and wouldn't give the lead back. The Penguins went on to win the set 25-18.
With Youngstown State up in the second set, the Owls made a furious rally before falling short and dropping the second set 25-23.
In the third set, Youngstown State jumped on the Owls early and didn't let up as they went on to clinch the match.
Freshman
Anaiah Boyer led the Owls with six kills.
Cierra Royster,
Fanise Cannon and McGuinness each had five kills.
Cannon also led the team with nine digs.
Kristi Piedimonte had 16 assists with three kills.
Next up, the Owls will travel to UT-Chattanooga this Tuesday, September 2 and play at 6 p.m.
