KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State lacrosse team lost their game to the Saint Mary Gaels 22-12, despite four points from three different players.
"Today showed us that we have to focus on handling pressure from our opponents," head coach
Kristina Llanes said. "Again, our defense communicated well and we did have smart shot placement in the second half."
Sydney Farwick,
Olivia Hokanson and
Taylor McGhee all had three goals and one assist in the game. Farwick also added 13 ground balls, won three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
The game started out with some strong defense as both teams went scoreless for nearly ten minutes before
Emily Collins fed Hokanson for a goal to break the tie. Saint Mary's would then go on a scoring run and build a 9-3 lead at halftime.
McGhee and Farwick got the Owls going early in the second half with three unanswered goals to cut their halftime deficit in half, but that's as close as the Owls would get the rest of the way.
As a team, KSU picked up 50 ground balls to Saint Mary's 42.
Collins,
Jessica Alderdice and Haley O'Donoghue rounded out the scoring for the Owls.
Jamie Miller picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers in the match.
Taylor Southerland also played well on the defensive end with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist on the afternoon.
The Owls will finish the regular season next Saturday, April 26 at 11 A.M. against A-Sun Conference opponent the Detroit Titans.
