ELON, N.C. – Despite a good defensive effort by the Kennesaw State lacrosse team, Elon went on to beat the Owls 18-7.
"I was really happy with the way our defensive unit played," head coach
Kristina Llanes said. "They had some huge stops, which lead to smart transitions. Our lack of depth hurt us today. When we were in scoring position we took shots and made adjustments on that end as well. It's all about maturing as a program with every opportunity, and we did that today."
In the first half, KSU was on the defensive end for most of the half, and held Elon scoreless for a ten-minute stretch. Goalie
Peyton Murdock finished the half with five saves and a .714 save percentage.
With 10:22 left in the second half, the Owls were within six when
Olivia Hokanson scored her second of the day, but the KSU offense was stifled by the Elon defense the rest of the way.
Leading the defensive effort, Murdock finished with 11 saves on the afternoon.
On the offensive end, Haley O'Donoghue had two more goals to bring her season total to 17.
Sydney Farwick won seven draw controls and had one goal and two assists.
Emily Collins and
Taylor McGhee also had a goal a piece for the Owls.
KSU will head home and finish the regular season at the friendly confines of Fifth Third Bank Stadium with two games left. Next Friday, April 18, the Owls will host St. Mary's at 11 A.M.
