KENNESAW, Ga. – Starting pitcher Travis Bergen tossed a strong 7.1 innings for the Kennesaw State baseball team on Saturday afternoon, leading the Owls to a 5-0 win over Stetson, handing the Owls the Atlantic Sun Conference series win in the process.

Bergen allowed just four hits while striking out five and not allowing a walk, bringing the Owls their fourth straight win and to an 18-20 overall record with a 5-9 mark in the A-Sun standings.

The lefty improved his ERA to 2.75 while earning win number four. Justin McCalvin then made it back-to-back saves, shutting the door on the Hatters with 1.1 innings of relief, his sixth save of the season.

The Owls picked up on a pair of long balls in the top of the first, taking a 2-0 lead after both Jacob Bruce and Colin Bennett picked up their first home runs of the year for a 2-0 KSU lead, Bruce sending his to right-center field and Bennett putting his just inside the left field foul pole.

KSU added on one more in the top of the fourth with Brennan Morgan driving in Bennett with a single to left field, Morgan's 18th RBI of the year, to set the Owls up by three.

In the bottom of the eighth the Owls tagged on two more for good measure, stringing together four hits to go up 5-0 on the Hatters. Jeremy Howell drove in Chris McGowan for the first run of the inning followed by a rocket infield hit from Cornell Nixon that sent in Alex Liquori.

Offensively the Owls made it a 10-hit day, the 21st time the Owls have put up 10 or more hits in a game this season, with Liquori and Bennett each knocking two, Bennett scoring a pair as well.

Max Pentecost kept his hit streak alive with a bunt single in the fifth, making it 19 consecutive games.

Stetson now falls to 14-22 with the loss and 3-8 in the conference after being held to just six hits by the KSU pitching staff.

The Owls and the Hatters will wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday, April 13, at 1 p.m. ET in Stillwell Stadium as KSU goes for the sweep.
