Kennesaw, Ga. – The Kennesaw State lacrosse team carried the momentum they created in the second half against Campbell into the Davidson game on Saturday, March 8.
Â
"We had strong momentum in the second half last week, and we carried that in to this weeks practice," head coach
Kristina Llanes said. "We really wanted to focus on putting two solid halves together. We did put a great first half together, but lost some momentum when fatigue set in with some injuries."
Â
The Owls came out and won the opening draw control to get an offensive possession. Three minutes later, freshman
Taylor McGhee scored her first collegiate goal to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
Â
After a short Davidson run,
Emily Collins assisted
Sydney Farwick for her sixth goal of the season. Not even two minutes later, Farwick would put another goal in the back of the net to make the score 3-7.
Â
This week in practice Kennesaw State worked on draw controls to get more offensive possession and it paid off in the first half as the draw controls were close to being even.
Â
"It's important to make adjustments on the draw, and we really focused on them in practice this week," Llanes said. "We really focused on fifty-fifty balls and fighting to possess the ball offensively also."
Â
The Owls scored first in the second half too as Collins scored her fourth of the season. She continued her all-around play as she finished the game with one goal, one assist, three ground balls, and three draw controls.
Â
Allison Senft played the entire second half and made three nice saves in the net.
Â
The final score ended up being 22-4 in favor of Davidson. The Owls will be back on the field next weekend as they host Anne Arundel Community College on Friday, March 14 at 11 A.M. and Presbyterian on Sunday, March 16 at 1 P.M.
