TALKING POINTS
» After a nine day break between games, the Kennesaw State men's basketball team travels back north to take on Youngstown State at 7 p.m. in the Beeghly Center on ESPN3.
» Defensively, the Owls have been tough to score on in the paint all season. Led by Willy Kouassi, KSU is 35th in the country and leads the A-Sun in blocks with 48 on the season averaging 4.8 per game.
 
THE COMPETITION
Youngstown State                   
The Penguins are coming off an 81-63 loss to SEC foe Texas A&M on Dec. 13 which makes them 7-5 on the season. Marcus Keene ranks third in the country and leads the Horizon league with 41 threes made so far this season. Point guard DJ Cole facilitates the offense and is seventh in the country with 69 assists. Head coach Jerry Slocum is in his 10th season at Youngstown State.

Despite having three scorers in double figures, the Kennesaw State men's basketball team couldn't overcome a highly efficient No. 15 Butler offense falling to the Bulldogs 93-51.

This Week in KSU Men's Basketball     
»    Kennesaw State travels back north to Ohio to play Youngstown State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on ESPN3.
»    The team will then head back home to Kennesaw and play UMBC on Saturday and Elon on Monday.
 
KSU as a Team                                                  
»    Prior to losing to FIU, the three game winning streak the Owls had was their longest winning streak since the 2009-10 season when that team won six in a row.
»    Against Butler, Yonel Brown, Delbert Love and Orlando Coleman all scored in double figures. Brown has scored in double figures in five of the past six games.
»    In what was a grueling early season schedule, KSU faced off against four 2013-14 NCAA Tournament teams during the first four games traveling over 10,000 miles. Since those first four games, the Owls have also traveled to Florida International and Butler.
»    The Owls currently lead the A-Sun in free throw percentage at .678. Against Chattanooga, the team was 34-44 from the free throw line shooting 77.3 percent. Both of these marks were the second highest in school history.
 
KSU Individually                                              
»    Brown set a new career high and tied the KSU points record with 32 points against Chattanooga. He also set new program records in free throws and free throws attempted going 18-21 from the charity stripe.
»    With Brown making 86.0 percent of his free throws he leads the A-Sun in that category as well as in minutes played averaging 36.3. He has scored in double figures in five of the past six games and averaging 15 points a game. Brown leads the team in scoring (13.1) and assists (27).
»    Junior Nigel Pruitt earned 2K Classic All-Tournament Team honors after going off for 20 points against North Dakota State followed by 11 against Alcorn State. Pruitt is second on the squad in points per game with 10.1.
»   Coleman leads the team with three double-doubles, earning 14 points and 12 rebounds at Mercer followed by a career-high 20-point, 12-rebound contest at Alcorn State and 12 points and 10 rebounds against Samford.
