WBB: Owls Hang 100 on Emory in Exhibition Win

Mosely Leads the Offensive Onslaught with 18 Points

INTERVIEW

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's basketball team started the season off on the right foot on Saturday afternoon, dropping 100 on Emory in exhibition action at the Convocation Center as the Owls put up a 108-56 win over their cross-town foe.

Breonna Mosely led the offensive onslaught for KSU, sinking a game-high 18 points to go with her 11 rebounds and was one of six Owl players to reach the double-digit point plateau.

"It was a total team effort," said KSU head coach #Nitra Perry. "They laid it all out there for each other. Everybody who got in the game scored for us and that was huge. I challenged them with a different defensive look today and they really responded. I'm proud of them and especially Kristina (Wells) and Breonna for leading the way."

Things got going early for the Owls as point guard Karly Frye knocked down a three after a Kristina Wells assists just 20 seconds into the contest. Mosely then hit on a layup to make it a five point lead.

KSU reached the 10-point advantage at the 12:30 mark with a Bria Young triple and quickly made it a 15-point edge as Young put in the next five on a layup and her second three of the game.

With the game set at 34-13 with 7:23 to go in the first, the Owls sprung out on an 11-0 scoring run to take their largest lead of the half on a pair of Valescia Dixon free throws.

Mosely ended the first period with two makes from the charity stripe to send the game into the intermission with a 48-20 KSU lead.

Coming out of the break it was more of the same as the Owls pushed their lead up to 39 points in the first five minutes at 71-31 on another Mosely basket and hit the 40-point mark minutes later on a Young freebie.

Emory managed to bring it back below 40 with a layup, but the Owls responded with one of their own, holding at least a 40-point lead for the remainder of the game.

"It felt great to have everybody contribute," said Wells of the win. "Nobody was doing their own thing and we all trusted each other and that's what we needed."

KSU put together a 56-percent shooting day from the field, including a 62-percent effort in the second half alone, while holding the Eagles to just 56 total points on the defensive end.

Along with Mosely's double-digit scoring night, Wells, Frye, Young, Tianna Germain and Valescia Dixon also ended with 10 or more.

On the boards, KSU outrebounded Emory 50-28 with Mosely's 11 leading both squads.

To go with the Owls 108 points, the home team also managed 20 assists as a team, five each coming from Frye and Wells.

The Owls will tip-off the 2014-15 regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET when the College of Charleston heads to the KSU Convocation Center for an ESPN3 featured contest.
