KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to three games behind a career high 32 points from junior point guard Yonel Brown as they beat Chattanooga 77-69 in the Convocation Center.

Brown was 18-21 from the free throw line and also added in six rebounds, three steals and three assists. The Owls as a whole shot 77 percent from the free throw line making 34-44.

"I told them before we even went out there," head coach Jimmy Lallathin said. "It's all about them. It's our first win streak in a while and it's their first win streak this year and it feels good to win. The history of it is one thing, but right now we're looking toward FIU and continuing to build. We're taking steps even after losses, but you have to continue to take steps after wins too. I got on them pretty good at halftime because I didn't think our execution in that first half was very good, but they responded. That's a mature team that showed themselves in the second half. They came back and did what they were supposed to do and it was a great team win."

Early in the first half with the score tied at six, KSU held Chattanooga scoreless for more than six minutes while going on a 12-0 run behind that good free throw shooting.

Chattanooga who falls to 3-4 on the year cut into the Owls lead and eventually came back to tie the score at 26 going into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, the Mocs grabbed a one-point lead early, but Brown hit a three to put the Owls back in front and spark a 12-1 run making the score 38-28.

Chattanooga responded with a quick 6-0 run of their own, to bring them within four at 38-34, but couldn't stop the Owls from going on another run.

With 12:15 left in the game and the Owls still holding onto a four-point lead, Brown took over the game. After a three by Nick Masterson pushed the Owls back up by nine, Brown hit a layup and then stole the ball from Casey Jones seconds later and added two more points making the lead 15 at 54-39.

From there, the Mocs hit some threes late, but it wasn't enough as the Owls went on to win 77-69.

This was the third time in four tries that Kennesaw State has beaten Chattanooga.

The 34 free throws made and the 38 free throws attempted are both second most in school history.

Nigel Pruitt scored in double figures with 10 points.

Nate Rucker collected 10 rebounds while Willy Kouassi added nine to go along with a block.

Next up, the Owls travel to Florida International to play Tuesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m.
