ATHENS, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State volleyball team lost a nail biter to in-state foe Georgia Bulldogs in five sets (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 7-15).

"I'm so proud of our team for how well we have represented Kennesaw State tonight, just like we have all season," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "Despite the win-loss record for our team this season, we showed a tremendous amount of growth and improvement from day one until today. It's always sad when a season comes to a close, but I will have special memories of this team, the players and all of the great things we accomplished this season."

In her last match in a Kennesaw State unifom, Ria Ridley led the team with 18 kills and had seven digs.

Anaiah Boyer had another double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs.

Kristi Piedimonte led the team in assists with 47 and digs with 17.

Early in the first with the score tied at the eight, the Owls came out focused and grabbed a lead at 10-8. A few points later, KSU extended their lead to five at 18-13 and forced Georgia to call a timeout. Georgia got within one, but kills by Ridley and Rachel Taylor gave the Owls the cushion that they needed as they went on to win the first set 25-22.

Both teams traded in points in the second until Kennesaw State went on a 4-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Georgia responded with a 4-0 run of their own to tie the score at 21, but the Owls answered. Piedimonte, Kelly Marcinek and Boyer all got kills to push the Owls to a 25-22 and 2-0 lead in the match.

With the Owls trying to close out the match in three sets, Ridley gave the Owls a 20-19 lead after one of her 18 kills. The Bulldogs fought back with a 3-0 run, and that was all the room they needed as they won the set 25-22.

Georgia used the momentum they gained at the end of the third set into the fourth and fifth to come back from three sets down to win the match.

This concludes the Owls 2014 season with a record of 10-19.
