JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt-sophomore Brittney Reed netted her second goal of the season in the fourth minute of the match as the Kennesaw State soccer team earned a gritty Atlantic Sun Conference road win against Jacksonville, 1-0, at Southern Oak Stadium on Friday (Oct. 10) night.

"It was a great performance tonight," said head coach Rob King. "It is nice to score first and take a little bit of pressure off. We dominated the game. It was a close game, but we dominated. We could have maybe scored another one or two, but one is all we needed. It was a great defensive effort and nice to get three points on the road to start the weekend. We are looking forward to North Florida on Sunday."

With just over three minutes gone in the match, the Owls (5-8-1, 2-2-0) struck for their fastest goal of the season as redshirt-sophomore Danielle Gray served in a free kick from the right flank of the midfield where Reed poked in her second score of the season from the six-yard box area.

KSU controlled much of the possession in the match, but with time winding down in the second half the Dolphins (8-6-1, 2-2-0) picked up the pressure. Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Sturdivant and the KSU backline of Reed, Gray, freshman Abby Roth and senior Iyani Hughes held strong to send the Owls to the 1-0 victory.

The Owls posted 13 shots in the win, with senior Julia Nelson notching three to lead KSU. Reed, freshman Marit Sandtroeen and Maggie Gaughan added two shots each for the Owls.

Freshman Mady Carter and Sturdivant split time in goal to earn the shutout for the Owls as Carter totaled one save in the first half and Sturdivant collected three in the second 45 minutes of action.

Sarah Sierra grabbed five saves for the Dolphins, who got three shots from Sope Akindoju.

The Owls continue their Jacksonville, Fla., road swing with a 1 p.m. match against North Florida on Sunday (Oct. 12).
