THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team wraps its three-game road trip and the first round of Atlantic Sun Conference action with a 3 p.m. ET date with in-state rival Mercer on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga. The contest will be available to watch on ASun.TV.

THE OPPONENT:
Mercer
The Bears (10-9) enter Saturday's rivalry matchup the winners of only two games in the last seven and own a 3-5 mark in conference play. Mercer broke a three-game losing streak in its last outing with a 57-52 road win against East Tennessee State last Saturday. The Bears have a balanced attack with four players in double figures, led by 17 per game from Precious Bridges and 12 point from Briana Williams. Teanna Robinson adds 10 boards per contest. The Bears are 4-4 in Macon, including a 1-3 mark during league play.
 
THE SERIES:
This will be the 17th all-time meeting between the Owls and the Bears, with KSU holding a 9-7 advantage over its in-state rival, but fell 57-36 in Macon, Ga., in the teams' last meeting on Feb. 2, 2013. Ashley Holliday led the Owls with 17 points while Sametria Gideon finished up with 13 to go with her seven rebounds.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team led early, but could not hold on in the end as the Owls dropped a 72-64 decision to USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) at the G.B. Hodge Center. Freshman guard Deandrea Sawyers led the Owls with a team-high 20 points, while junior guard Kristina Wells poured in 19 points.
 
NEXT UP:
Kennesaw State returns to the Convocation Center as the second round of Atlantic Sun Conference play begins when the Owls host Lipscomb on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Three-Point Shooting
The Owls rank second in conference play in three-point field goals per game with 7.1 threes per contest and is shooting 32.4 percent from three-point land in league games which sits third in the A-Sun. Overall, the Owls are averaging six threes per contest and have connected on 114 treys this season.
 
Threes in a Game
KSU have made six or more treys on 10 occasions, including tying the program record with 12 at Lipscomb on Jan. 9th.
 
Defensive Rebounding
The Owls rank third in the A-Sun in rebounding defense, holding teams to 38.0 rebounds per contest, while also ranking fourth in rebounding margin (+0.4) and fifth in defensive rebound percentage (.665).
 
Offensive Boards
KSU is grabbing more offensive boards then their opponents, 250-241, and are averaging 13.2 per game.
 
Leading the Way
Junior guard Kristina Wells continues to lead the Owls and ranks in the top seven in the conference in minutes played (third, 35.1 mpg), rebounding (fourth, 8.9 rpg), scoring (fifth, 15.4 ppg), assists (sixth, 2.8 apg) and steals (seventh, 1.6 spg).
 
Triple Doubles and Double Doubles
Wells owns the only triple double in the A-Sun this season and ranks second in the league and 37th in the nation with nine double-doubles. Her 10 10-rebound games are the fourth-most in the conference.
 
Wells in Conference Play
In conference play, Wells sits second in scoring (18.6 ppg), fourth in rebounding (8.9 rpg) and is shooting at 50 percent from the field. The junior also ranks fifth in assists (3.9), sixth in minutes played (35.5) and eighth in blocked shots (1.0).
 
Sawyers Behind the Arc
Freshman guard and three-point specialist Deandrea Sawyers has lit up from behind the arc, ranking first in the A-Sun and 59th- in the country with 2.5 three-pointers per game. Her 35.1 percentage from three-point land sits 10th in the league and 121st nationally.
 
Fantastic Freshman
In league play, Sawyers ranks third in scoring with 16.6 points per contests, which is the highest scoring average of any freshman, while leading the A-Sun with 30 three-pointers and 3.8 threes per game.
 
Young Making Threes
Junior Guard Bria Young has made the second-most threes on the team with 27 and is averaging two treys per game in conference action, which ranks fifth in the A-Sun.
