THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team continues its road swing in Spartanburg, S.C., with a 4:30 p.m. ET contest against USC Upstate on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the G.B. Hodge Center. The game will be available to watch on the ESPN3 network.

THE OPPONENT:
USC Upstate
The Spartans opened the conference slate with a 1-3 record, but have since rebounded to take two-consecutive wins over East Tennessee State and Mercer, both of which were last-second, buzzer-beater 63-62 victories. Upstate owns an overall record of 8-9 and is 4-2 in Spartanburg. The Spartans are led by Brittany Starling, the lone player averaging double figure points with 11.2 per game to go along with 7.7 rebounds per contest.  Brittany Clency adds 9.7 points per game and leads the team in assists (34) and minutes played (456).
 
THE SERIES:
This will be the 30th all-time meeting between the Owls and the Spartans, with KSU holding a 20-9 advantage over KSU, but fell 57-48 in Spartanburg, S.C., in the teams' last meeting on Feb. 16, 2013. Then-freshmen Nicole Adams and Chelsea Mason led the Owls with 13 and 11 points, respectively. 
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Junior guard Kristina Wells continued her dominate play with 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, but it was not enough as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team dropped a tough 74-68 battle with East Tennessee State on Thursday night (Jan. 23) at the MSHA/ETSU Athletics Center.
 
NEXT UP:
Kennesaw State wraps its three-game road swing as the Owls make the short trip to Macon, Ga., for a 3 p.m. ET contest against rival Mercer in The University Center on Saturday, Feb. 1.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Three-Point Shooting
The Owls rank fifth in the conference and 105th in the country in three-point field goals per game with 6.0 threes per contest. KSU has connected on 108 threes this season and are averaging 7.3 threes per league contest, which ranks second in the conference.
 
Threes in a Game
KSU have made six or more treys on nine occasions, including tying the program record with 12 at Lipscomb on Jan. 9th.
 
Defensive Rebounding
The Owls rank third in the A-Sun in rebounding defense, holding teams to 37.7 rebounds per contest, while also ranking fourth in defensive rebound percentage (.667) and rebounding margin (+0.4).
 
Offensive Boards
KSU is grabbing more offensive boards then their opponents, 238-224, and are averaging 13.2 per game.
 
Wells in the Lead
Junior guard Kristina Wells continues to lead the Owls and ranks in the top six in the conference in minutes played (third, 35.6 mpg), rebounding (fourth, 9.0 rpg), scoring (fifth, 15.2 ppg), assists (sixth, 2.9 apg) and steals (sixth, 1.7 spg).
 
Triple-Doubles and Double-Doubles
Wells owns the only triple double in the A-Sun this season and ranks second in the league and 30th in the nation with nine double-doubles. Her 10 10-rebound games are tied for the third-most in the conference.
 
Wells in A-Sun Action
In conference play, Wells sits second in scoring (17.7 ppg), fourth in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and sixth in assists (3.8), blocked shots (1.2) and minutes played (36.7 mpg).
 
Chasing Records
Freshman guard Deandrea Sawyers leads the A-Sun in three-point field goals made with 46, which sits fifth in program history for three-pointers made in a season by an individual and is one trey away from tying for third place. Her 16.1 points per game in A-Sun action also ranks sixth in the conference.
 
Three-Point Specialist
Three-point specialist Sawyers has lit up from behind the arc, ranking first in the A-Sun and 56th in the country with 2.6 three-pointers per game and has made a league-leading 46 threes this season. Her 35.7 percentage from three-point land sits 10th in the league and 110th nationally.
 
Sawyers in League Play
In league play, Sawyers leads the A-Sun with 29 three-pointers and is averaging 4.1 per game. She also sits in sixth place with 16.1 points per game, which is the second-highest average for a freshman.
 
Young Heating Up
Junior Guard Bria Young has made the second-most threes on the team with 26 and is averaging two treys per game in conference action, which ranks fourth in the A-Sun.
