THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team begins a three-game road trip, first traveling to Johnson City, Tenn., to face East Tennessee State for a 4 p.m. ET contest on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center. The contest can be seen on ASun.TV for free.
 
The Owls are 4-13 on the season and sit in seventh place in A-Sun standings with a 2-4 record, while the Bucs are right behind the Owls in eighth in league standings at 1-4 and own a 5-11 overall record.

THE OPPONENT:
East Tennessee State
After a conference-opening win over Lipscomb, the Bucs have lost four-straight in league play, including a 63-62 heartbreaker to USC Upstate on Sunday. ETSU owns a 5-11 overall record and is 4-5 in Johnson City. The Bucs have four players averaging double figures, led by Cara Bowling (12.7 ppg) and Brianna McQueen (11.9 ppg). Bowling did not play in ETSU's contest against Upstate with her status to be determined for Thursday's game. Serena Clark adds 11.2 ppg and 10.6 rpg for ETSU.
 
THE SERIES:
This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the Owls and the Bucs, with ETSU holding a 10-1 advantage over KSU, including a 69-65 win in Johnson City, Tenn., in the teams' last meeting on Feb. 18, 2013. Then-freshman Nicole Adams posted a career-high 23 points, including six three-pointers to lead the Owls.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Even with a career-day from junior guard Kristina Wells, the Kennesaw State women's basketball team fell to defending Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament champion Stetson, 98-75, on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 18) at the KSU Convocation Center. Wells put in a career and game-high 32 points, to go along with nine rebounds.
 
NEXT UP:
The Owls continues their three-game road trip as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a 4:30 p.m. ET contest against USC Upstate in the G.B. Hodge Center on Saturday, Jan. 25.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Three-Point Shooting
The Owls rank fifth in the conference and 116th in the country in three-point field goals per game with 5.9 threes per contest. KSU has connected on 101 threes this season and is shooting at a 30 percent clip from behind the arc. The Owls have sunk six or more treys on eight occasions, including tying the program record with 12 at Lipscomb on Jan. 9th.
 
Threes in A-Sun Plays
In conference action, the Owls rank second in three-pointers made with 44 for 7.3 treys per contest. KSU also sits third in the A-Sun in three-point field goal percentage at 31.7 percent.
 
On the Boards
The Owls continue to be a strong rebounding team, ranking third in the A-Sun in rebounding defense and is holding teams to 38.2 rebounds per contest. Offensively, KSU sits fourth in offensive rebounding percentage (.340) and owns 224 total offensive rebounds for an average of 13.2 per game. 
 
Wells Doing it All
Junior guard Kristina Wells continues to lead the Owls and ranks in the top six in the conference in minutes played (third, 35.5 mpg), rebounding (fourth, 8.9 rpg), scoring (fifth, 14.6 ppg), assists (sixth, 2.7 apg) and steals (sixth, 1.6 spg).
 
Wells in Conference Action
In conference play, Wells sits second in scoring (17.7 ppg), fourth in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and sixth in assists (3.8), blocked shots (1.2) and minutes played (36.7 mpg).
 
Three-Point Specialist
Freshman guard and three-point specialist Deandrea Sawyers has lit up from behind the arc, ranking first in the A-Sun and 66th in the country with 2.5 three-pointers per game and has made a league-leading 43 threes this season. Her 35.2 percentage from three-point land sits 12th in the league and 124th nationally.
 
Threes in a Game
Sawyers has hit four or more treys in the last five of seven contests, including registering back-to-back games with seven made three-pointers against North Florida and Lipscomb.
 
Triple Doubles and Double Doubles
Wells owns the only triple double in the A-Sun this season and ranks second in the league and 34th in the country with eight double-doubles. Her nine 10-rebound games are the fourth-most in the conference.
 
Assists in League Play
Redshirt-senior forward Lisa Capellan ranks 10th in assists during conference play with 2.8 helpers per game.
 
Sawyers Leading Owls in A-Sun
Sawyers leads the Owls in A-Sun action with 17 points per game, which sits fourth in the league. Her scoring average is the highest for all freshmen in the conference.
