VB: Owls Travel to Ole Miss for Magnolia Invitational

KSU to Face Ole Miss, Arkansas State and Rival Georgia Southern

THE MATCHES:

The Kennesaw State volleyball team continues the non-conference portion of its schedule this weekend, heading to Southeastern Conference opponent Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. to take part in the Magnolia Invitational.
 
KSU opens up tournament play against the host team Ole Miss on Friday at noon ET before turning around to play Arkansas State at 6 p.m. ET later that evening. The Owls will close out the trip with a Saturday contest against in-state rival Georgia Southern at noon ET before heading home.

THE OPPONENTS:
Ole Miss
The Rebels are 2-1 on the year after taking matches from UMBC and George Washington to open up the season. Ole Miss has yet to finish a match in less than four sets.

Arkansas State 
Arkansas State is still looking for its first win of 2013 after going 0-4 in the Missouri Tiger Invitational. ASU is making its second straight appearance in an SEC tournament to start off the year.

Georgia Southern
After sweeping the Jaguar Invitational to start off the season, GSU is sitting at 3-1 and looking to keep its hot hand going at the Ole Miss Magnolia Invitational.
Last Meeting: Georgia Southern won, 3-1, on Aug. 28, 2007.
 
NEXT UP:
The Owls will make their 2013 home debut on Sept. 13-14, as the team hosts its annual Owls Invitational, facing Samford, Tennessee Tech, Coastal Carolina and Stony Brook in the KSU Convocation Center.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Return to Mississippi
KSU is currently 3-0 in the state of Mississippi since joining the NCAA Division I ranks after winning the Mississippi State Maroon Classic in 2012.
 
Marcinek's Big Debut
Kelly Marcinek was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Week after totalling 42 kills in the team's first three games, including a 23-kill outing in her first collegiate appearance.
 
KSU in the A-Sun
The Owls are one of the top hitting teams in the A-Sun during the early goings, hitting .225 while holding their opponents to a .197 percentage. KSU is also one of the most profecient offenses in the league thus far, falling in the top five in both kills with 148 and assists with 138.
 
Individual Performances
Toure Hopkins has proved to be one of the most well-rounded players, earning 25 kills with 17 digs and a team-best nine total blocks. On the defensive end, senior libero Camille Pedraza leads the team with 34 digs with freshman Fanise Cannon right behind with 30. In her first match for Kennesaw State, redshirt freshman Megan McGuinness put up three blocks during the win against North Carolina A&T State with four kills and now has four total blocks on the season.
