KENNESAW, Ga. – Freshman forward Maggie Gaughan led the Kennesaw State soccer team past Troy, 2-0, with her first two career goals in the Black and Gold on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Gaughan registered her first collegiate goal in the 18th minute to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. The Marietta, Ga., native dribbled through the Trojan defense before slotting the ball past Troy goalkeeper Caitlin Buono, who was came off her line to defend the shot.

KSU took its 1-0 lead into halftime after controlling much of the possession in the opening 45 minutes of play.

The Owls turned up the pressure in the second half, looking to add to their lead. Gaughan would do just that in the 66th minute, heading the ball into the back of the net off of a beautiful cross from the right flank by redshirt-freshman defender Brittney Reed. It was Reed's first assist of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Sturdivant and the KSU defense held off a final Troy attack to earn the group's third shutout of the season.

KSU outshot the Trojans 12 to five, with four shots on goal to Troy's two. Along with Gaughan, the Owls were led offensively with three shots each from junior midfielder Nicole Calder and redshirt-junior forward Katrina Frost.

Both teams earned four corners in the match and combined for 14 fouls.

Sturdivant totaled a pair of saves in the win, while Buono and Madison Winter split time in goal for the Trojans with each notching a save.

The Owls next open Atlantic Sun Conference action with a 7 p.m. (ET) match against Lipscomb on Friday, Sept. 27 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
