KENNESAW, Ga. – After a 3-0 win over USC Upstate on Friday night, the Kennesaw State volleyball team couldn't make it six straight wins as East Tennessee State took a 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 27-25, 25-19) win on Saturday afternoon in the KSU Convocation Center.

The loss is the first on the home floor for KSU, who now sits at 6-6 on the year at 1-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference as ETSU moves to 8-6 on the year and 2-0 in the league.

After the Bucs took the first set in commanding fashion, 25-15, and went up in the second 11-4, the Owls sprung to life late, cutting the ETSU lead down to 23-20 after a 4-0 run from the home team. The comeback bid fells short, however, as ETSU took the 2-0 match lead after a 25-21 set win.

The Owls took their lone set win of the match in the third in what was a back-and-forth effort from both teams, consisting of 19 ties and 13 lead changes. With the set knotted up at 25-25, it was Keyaira Stevenson who gave the Owls set point with a kill off of a Sara Metroka assist. Freshmen Kelly Marcinek and Megan McGuinness then teamed up for the block that gave the Owls a 27-25 win.

In the fourth and final set it was again even pegging throughout with Toure Hopkins putting KSU back within one at 20-19 off of a service ace, snapping what was a 3-0 run from the Bucs. ETSU proved resilient, however, scoring the last five points of the set to take it, 25-19.

Stevenson was tops for the KSU offense with 12 kills with Marcinek also figuring in double-digits with her 10. Metroka ended the afternoon with 35 assists while libero Camille Pedraza picked up 19 digs. McGuinness led the Owls in blocks with her five.

KSU will be back on the road this week as the team heads south to take on Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 27 and Stetson on Sept. 28.
