KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State soccer team ran into a talented Samford squad on Tuesday, Sept. 17, dropping a tough 3-0 decision against the Bulldogs on a chilly night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

After a slow start from both teams in a back and forth first half, Samford took control of the match with less than four minutes remaining in the half on a goal from Amanda Abbott. After a through ball from Sara Smeltzer, Abbott finished a breakaway against freshman Owl goalkeeper Olivia Sturdivant to the lower left corner of the goal.

Coming out after halftime, Abbott pushed the Bulldog lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute on a pass over the defense from Anna Allen and then slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Trine Taule tallied the final Samford goal of the night in the 73rd minute as Jordan Johnson crossed the ball from the left flank into Taule, who headed the ball into the goal.

KSU totaled seven shots with three on frame, while Samford had 12 shots with nine on goal. Freshman forward Maggie Gaughan led the Owls with two shots on goal. Michelle Moll notched three shots on goal for Samford.

Kennesaw State took three corners in the contest, with the Bulldogs earning five. Both teams combined for 16 fouls.

Sturdivant totaled six saves on the night, while Katie Peters made three saves for the Bulldogs.

The Owls will be back at Fifth Third Bank Stadium to take on Troy on Sunday, September 22 at 1 p.m. (ET).
