VB: Owls Begin KSU Owls Invitational with 3-2 Win over Tennessee Tech

Keyaira Stevenson led the KSU Attack with 20 Kills in Five-Set Victory

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team opened the KSU Owls Invitational with a heart-pounding five-set victory over Tennessee Tech at the KSU Convocation Center on Friday. The Owls defeated the Golden Eagles 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 18-16) in the tournament's second match of the day.
 
KSU came out firing on all cylinders to take the first two sets (25-21, 25-20) and were led by junior Keyaira Stevenson with 10 kills in the first two sets.
 
Tennessee Tech rallied to push the match to five sets with wins in the third and fourth sets (25-20, 25-22).
 
In the fifth and final set, the Owls jumped out to a 4-1 lead, before TTU evened the score at 10-10. The Golden Eagles jumped out front 13-11, but a kill from freshman Kelly Marcinek and a TTU attack error gave KSU new life. Back-to-back kills from sophomore Cierra Royster and Stevenson cemented the Owl victory at 18-16.
 
Stevenson led the team with 20 kills, while Marcinek put up 13 kills. Senior Camille Pedraza came up with an impressive 19 digs. Senior Sara Metroka poured in 46 assists in the win.
 
The Owls will be back in action for its second match of the day with a 7:30 p.m. (ET) tilt against Stony Brook. Live stats will be available at KSUOwls.Com.
