KENNESAW, Ga. (May 20, 2013) –
Tim Glanton, who has spent the previous seven seasons as head football coach at South Paulding High School (Douglasville, Ga.) has been named an assistant coach at Kennesaw State, head coach
Brian Bohannon announced on Monday. He will work on the offensive side of the ball, coaching the A-backs, slot position.
Glanton becomes the fifth hire, and fourth assistant coach, for Bohannon who was named the Owls’ first-ever head coach on Mar. 24.
Grant Chesnut was hired as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach on Apr. 16 and
Liam Klein and
Shane Bowen were announced as assistant coaches on Apr. 17 and Apr. 18, respectively.
Jay Bailey was hired as director of football operations on May 13.
“Tim and I go way back. We’ve known each other for a long time and he’s an unbelievable football coach,” Bohannon said. “He is a great communicator, has a great rapport with young men and obviously for him, all the experience he has being a head coach and assistant coach, he’s done it all, coached it all, makes him a great hire for Kennesaw State.
“For him, he was ready to take a step to the next level and I feel like a hit a home run with Tim,” Bohannon added. “He’s an awesome, man, awesome person and I’m excited about all the talents he brings to the table.”
Glanton took over a startup program at South Paulding High in 2006 and led the Spartans to a 29-33 mark in seven years, including 6-4 records in each of the last three seasons. He also coached 30 players that earned college scholarships.
“I am truly excited and blessed to have the opportunity to become part of the Kennesaw State University family,” Glanton said. “I look forward to working with Coach Bohannon and helping build the Kennesaw State football program.”
Prior to his tenure at South Paulding High, Glanton assumed the reins of a struggling East Paulding High program in 2003 that was just 2-38 in the previous four seasons. The best season of his three-year tenure came in 2004 when Glanton guided the Raiders to a 6-4 mark, the program’s first winning season in 10 years. The team’s turnaround helped earn Glanton 7AAAA Coach of the Year honors.
Glanton’s 23 years as a high school football coach also includes time at Villa Rica High School (2002-03; offensive coordinator), Paulding County High School (2001-02; offensive coordinator), Brooks County High School (1998-2001; head coach) and Tift County High School (1995-98; assistant coach).
Glanton played collegiately at West Georgia College (1985-90) where Bohannon was a graduate assistant coach. He joined the program as a walk-on wide receiver before earning a scholarship. Glanton earned a bachelor’s in recreation management in 1989 and health and physical education in 1990.
A native a Rome, Ga., Glanton and his wife, Latonya, have two children, Megan (20) and Tim, Jr. (18), and reside in Villa Rica, Ga.
Kennesaw State University is currently celebrating 30 years of intercollegiate athletics during the 2012-13 academic year.
