KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team earned its fourth Atlantic Sun Conference series win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Florida Gulf Coast in the rubber match between the two schools on Wednesday, April 10 at Bailey Park.
The Owls improve to 26-14 on the season and 10-8 in the A-Sun, while FGCU drops to 27-15 and 8-6 in conference action.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the second inning as Brittney Garabedian posted an RBI double to right field after back-to-back walks to open the inning put runners at first and second for FGCU. Regan Knapik then singled through the right side to bring home the second Eagle run.
The FGCU lead did not last long as the Owls responded with three runs in the third and move the score to 3-2 in favor of KSU. With the bases loaded and two outs in the inning, junior
Bianca Durant (Douglasville, Ga./Chapel Hill HS) delivered a clutch single through the left side to plate sophomore
Natalie Rhodes (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) and senior
Jensen Hackett (Tunnell Hill, Ga./Ringgold HS). A batter later the Owls took the lead for good as junior
Angie Dascoli (West Melbourne, Fla./State College of Florida) singled to left center, bringing in senior
Sharon Swanson (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) for the winning run.
Senior
Abbey Mixon (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) entered the game in the fourth inning for junior starter
Amanda Henderson (Covington, Ga./Eastside HS) and pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win, while only allowing a single hit and striking out six Eagles in the outing. Mixon improved to 9-8 on the season.
KSU outhit the Eagles nine to three, with FGCU committing the game’s only error. Hackett again was strong offensively for the Owls, registering a 3-for-3 performance and run, while Dascoli contributed two hits and an RBI.
Amanda Josie (8-3) took the loss for the Eagles.
