Owls Take on In-State Opponents Georgia and Georgia Tech in Mid-Week Action

THE SERIES:
The Kennesaw State baseball team steps out of Atlantic Sun Conference action for a pair of midweek contests, hosting Georgia before heading into downtown Atlanta to face off against top 25 opponent Georgia Tech.
 
Tuesday’s 6 p.m. ET home game against the Bulldogs will feature Kennesaw State football head coach Brian Bohannon throwing out the first pitch and signing autographs for fans. The first 500 in attendance will also receive free gold drawstring bags courtesy of Shane Co. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for kids.
 
Wednesday’s start time at Georgia Tech is scheduled for 6 p.m.

THE OPPONENT
The 10-19 Georgia Bulldogs arrive to Stillwell Stadium after losing 11 of the team’s last 13 games, including a 2-1 loss to the Owls in Athens, Ga. earlier this season.
 
UGA is hitting .276 as a team but has struggled on the mound, holding a staff ERA of 4.76 and are allowing a .279 batting average to opponents.
 
Georgia Tech is one of the top teams in the nation up to this point in the season, holding a 21-6 record and a 16-3 mark on its home field.
 
The Yellow Jackets are hitting an unprecedented .345 as a team and slugging .513 with 29 total homeruns.
 
LAST OUTING
With a four-hit, complete game shutout from Kevin Kyle, the Kennesaw State baseball team picked up the series win over Stetson with a 4-0 Saturday afternoon victory over the Hatters in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Kyle (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Perimeter Coll.) went the full nine innings facing the minimum number of batters in all but the first inning while striking out three en route to picking up his fourth straight victory from the mound.

The Owls now hold a 17-11 overall record and are 6-3 in the A-Sun after taking back-to-back conference series win and are 5-1 in their last six league games.
 
The shutout was the second in three games for KSU after taking a 4-0 win over the Hatters (13-15, 2-5 A-Sun) in the Thursday night series opener.

As a team, the Owls were good for eight hits from seven different players with Simmons the only player bringing in multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Andy Almonte (Moca, Puerto Rico/Gordon College) had the only hit for extra bases with his eighth inning double.

Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill HS) and Alex Liquori (Brooks, Ga./Whitewater HS) went on to steal a base as well.
 
NEXT UP
The Owls return to A-Sun action this weekend, hosting No. 25 Florida Gulf Coast in a three game series starting on Friday, April 5 at 6 p.m. ET.

NEWS AND NOTES
Leading the Way
Bo Way (Brunswick, Ga./Glynn Academy) continues to lead the KSU offense, hitting .342 with a slugging percentage of .441 and an on base percentage of .413. Way had a 20-game hit-streak broken at Stetson this past weekend.
 
On the Bases
Way and teammate Liquori have stolen a combined 12 bases as the Owls have taken 35 as a team so far.
 
The Bullpen
The pitching staff is holding the opposition to just a .215 batting average and holds a team ERA of just 2.88, one of the top ERAs in the nation and is 16th in the country in terms of hits allowed, giving up just 7.16 per nine innings.
 
In the Field
Catcher Max Pentecost ()Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) has now caught eight runners attempting to steal with fellow catcher Brennan Morgan (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh HS) catching three. First baseman Anthony Duran (Miami, Fla./Southwest Miami HS) continues his perfect fielding streak at first base, holding a 1.000 fielding percentage in 150 chances. As a team, KSU holds a percentage of .950.
 
McCalvin in the Clutch
Relief pitcher Justin McCalvin (Leesburg, Ga./Lee County HS) has been lights-out for the Owls, throwing 15.2 innings giving up just 11 hits and zero earned runs while striking out 21.
 
Kyle Pitcher of the Week
Senior Kevin Kyle was named the A-Sun Pitcher of the Week after a complete game shutout win over the Hatters.
