KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team took advantage of two Evansville errors to squeak out a Friday night win at home 4-3.

After a combined five runs in the first inning, it looked like it was going to be an offensive affair to start the three game home series against the Purple Aces (3-8).

Evansville struck first in the game; scoring two runs off of three hits in the top of the first against Owls starter Travis Dean.

Kennesaw State answered back in its half of the first inning with three runs. After back-to-back singles by Peyton Hart and Jacob Bruce, Bo Way singled to right field for the Owls first run. Anthony Duran followed with a bases clearing single that put the Black and Gold ahead 3-2.

EU scored an unearned run in the top of the third to tie the game, but again the Owls would erase the run with one of its own in there half of the frame.

After a single to right field by Hart, the third baseman stole second to put himself in scoring position. Two batters later, Hart sprinted down the third base line following a shallow sac-fly by Max Pentecost, narrowly sliding underneath the tag of the catcher for what would turn out to be the game winning run.

The four runs would be just enough for KSU, as the pitching staff shut down the Purple Aces. Dean pitched five innings, allowing only two earned runs on five hits, striking out four to earn the win.

“Tonight was another struggle to score runs, but we got just enough to get the job done,” Head Coach Mike Sansing said. “We are just going to have to continue to capitalize on opportunities and get guys in when they are in scoring position.”

KSU enjoyed another solid outing from its bullpen, with Colton Cross providing three innings of no hit baseball. James Connell picked up his third save of the season, preserving the 4-3 win.

The Owls continue the series against Evansville on Saturday Mar. 9 at Stillwell Stadium First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Kevin Kyle (1-2, 4.15) will take the mound against Evansville lefthander Kyle Freeland (2-1, 2.84).
