Owls Softball Completes Sweep of NKU with 3-0 Win on Sunday

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team completed its first Atlantic Sun Conference series sweep as the Owls posted a 3-0 win over Northern Kentucky at Bailey Park on Sunday, March 24 after winning two on Saturday.
 
KSU improves to 23-5 and 7-2 in conference action, while the Norse fall to 6-21 and 0-9 in the A-Sun.
 
The Owls opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when junior Sara Sikes (Douglasville, Ga./Georgia) delivered her ninth double of the season to plate freshman Megan Veringa (Roswell, Ga./Centennial HS) from second.
 
An inning later Veringa put KSU up by two with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring junior Angie Dascoli (West Melbourne, Fla./State College of Florida) after two walks and a sacrifice hit advanced Dascoli to third.
 
KSU added a run in the sixth as freshman Missy Perkowski (Woodstock, Ga. / Sequoyah HS) grounded out to shortstop to score pinch runner Rachel Dennis (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS).
 
Sophomore starter Monica Vickery (Rossville, Ga. / Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe HS) pitched four innings and only allowed four hits to earn her second win of the season. Junior Amanda Henderson entered the game in the fifth inning and pitched three scoreless innings to secure her third save.
 
The Owls had three hits in the game, including one each from Sikes, sophomore Natalie Rhodes (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) and senior Sharon Swanson (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS).
 
Emily Schwaeble dropped to 1-11 in the loss, with Dee Dee Davis going 2-for-3 for the Norse.
 
Kennesaw State next travels to Atlanta for a single game against Georgia State on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. (ET).
