Men’s Tennis Rolls Past Bethune-Cookman, 4-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Alexander Pena and freshman Tobi Menhofer and Maksim Yorsh each won their singles matches to lead the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team to a 4-1 win over Bethune-Cookman at the City Island Tennis Courts on Friday, March 15.
 
“We were finally able to put together a solid effort across the board this afternoon,” said Head Coach T.J. Greggs. “We have always known we were capable, but now we have experienced beating a very good team in Bethune-Cookman. I'm proud of the way we fought today.”
 
Kennesaw State improves to 3-8 this season, while the Wildcats fall to 11-9.
 
KSU earned its fourth doubles point of the season with a pair of 8-6 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Menhofer and sophomore Louis Theodor defeated Seve Day and Juan Varon for the tandem’s sixth win on court one, while Pena and senior Gokalp Ozdemir overcame Gilbert Rotich and Leonardo Lima on court three for  their fourth victory of the season.
 
Bethune-Cookman evened the match at 1-1 as sophomore Matthew Johnson fell at No. 6 singles to open singles play.
 
The Owls then responded by winning the next three singles matches to secure the victory. Yorsh started off the charge with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Varon on court two, followed by a 6-4, 6-2 win from Pena over Kip Jackson at No. 5 singles.
 
Menhofer proved to be the winning point as the freshman recorded a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 decision over Day on court one.

With the decision in hand the matches on courts three and four were called and left unfinished.
  
Kennesaw State concludes its Florida trip with a neutral site match against Green Bay on Sunday, March 17 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on the campus of Stetson in Deland, Fla. The match is slated to start at noon (ET).
