Owls End Home-Stand With North Florida on Monday

THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team will wrap up its two-game home stand and look to make it back-to-back wins on Monday, Feb. 11, as the Owls face off against Atlantic Sun Conference opponent the University of North Florida at 7 p.m. ET in the KSU Convocation Center.
 
The 6-17 Owls, 2-9 in the A-Sun, will look to avenge an early season loss to the Ospreys, who head into Monday’s game at 10-13 and 6-6 in the conference standings.
 
Kennesaw State sunglasses will be given away to the first 500 fans with the Austell Elementary School jump rope team performing at halftime.
 
Tickets for the game are still $6 for adults, $4 for kids under the age of 12 with Kennesaw State students, faculty and staff as well as military members free with a valid ID.

THE OPPONENT
UNF is looking to end a two-game losing streak after suffering a heartbreaking 51-49 loss at Mercer this past Saturday.

Ki Conner leads the way scoring for the Ospreys after surpassing the 200 point mark for the season with a 9.4 points per game average.

As a team, UNF carries one of the best defenses in the A-Sun, allowing opponents to just 59.3 points per game on average with a .393 field goal percentage.

THE SERIES
KSU leads the all-time series over North Florida, 8-6, with the Ospreys winning the first meeting between the two schools earlier this season, 52-49, on Jan. 12, in Jacksonville, Fla.
 
The Owls had the ball in hand with a chance to win it in the final seconds, but an Ashley Holliday (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann Academy) three-pointer fell short in the final seconds.
 
Kristina Wells (Douglasville, Ga./Douglas County HS)  had her second 20-point outing of the season to lead the KSU offense while senior Sametria Gideon (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) earned her third straight double-double and ninth of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Wells also shot 56-percent from the field to go with her game-high 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
 
LAST OUTING
The one-two punch of Chelsea Mason (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) and Sametria Gideon (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) proved strong on Saturday afternoon as the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team took a 57-51 win over Atlantic Sun Conference foe Jacksonville in the KSU Convocation Center.

Mason (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) earned the second double-double of her stand-out freshman season with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds while Gideon (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) tipped in 20 points of her own with nine boards and a pair of blocks.
 
Ashley Holliday (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann Academy) dished out a career-high eight assists during the game as the Owls were good for a season-high 15 assists as a team.

On the glass, KSU took down 39 rebounds to the Dolphins 30 with Mason’s 10 leading both squads.

KSU also capitalized on 16 JU turnovers, turning the errors into 21 points on the other end.

In the paint, the Owls were dominant as well, putting in 30 points under the basket.
 
THE NUMBERS
Gideon is one of just a handful players in the nation to average a double-double with 11.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
 
The three-point defense of KSU is one of the best in the A-Sun and one of the top 100 in the nation, holding opponents to just a 26.2 percent success rate from beyond the arc.
 
The Owls are committing just 12 fouls per game, putting KSU at No. 4 in the nation in fewest personal fouls per contest.
 
KSU now has three players in the top 10 rebounding in the A-Sun, more than any other school in the conference.
 
NEXT UP
The Owls will hit the road for a pair of A-Sun contests in the next week, traveling to USC Upstate on Feb. 16 before taking to East Tennessee State on Feb. 18.

NEWS AND NOTES
Gideon’s Double-Doubles
Senior Sametria Gideon is the only player in the A-Sun to be averaging a double-double on the season with 11.6 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. Gideon continues to lead the A-Sun in rebounding with her 10.3 boards per outing average.
 
Gideon in Rare Company
Gideon is one of just three active players in the country to be a school’s career points and rebounds leader. The only 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound player in school history, Gideon now has 1,181 points and 1,015 rebounds to her name.
 
Adams Provides a Spark
Nicole Adams (New Port Richey, Fla./Gulf HS) has made three consecutive starts for head coach Nitra Perry and is now tops on the team in terms of three-point field goal percentage with a 38-percent success rate from beyond the arc.
 
Milestones to look out for
Ashley Holliday (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann Academy) is seeking her 1,000th career point, holding steady at 901, and her 200th three-pointer, currently sitting at 195 makes from beyond the arc.
