WBB: Owls Set to Travel to Athens for First-Ever Meeting with No. 16 Georgia

THE GAME:
The Owls wrap-up their two-game road trip with a 2 p.m. ET contest against No. 16 Georgia in Athens, Ga., on Sunday, Dec. 15. It will be the second Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe and first ranked team the Owls' have faced this season.
 
This will be the second-consecutive NCAA Tournament participant the Owls have faced this season, after traveling to Middle Tennessee State on Thursday.
 
THE COVERAGE:
TV: CSS will have the broadcast of the game with Jeff Dantzler on play-by-play and Kiesha Brown providing color.

THE OPPONENT:
Georgia
After over two weeks away from Stegeman Coliseum, the undefeated Bulldogs (9-0) return to Athens and enter the contest ranked No. 16/17 in the national polls. UGA opened the season with six-straight home games, before a neutral-site match up against George Washington and back-to-back road trips to Georgia State and Belmont. UGA led by Tiaria Griffin (15.8 ppg), who is one of four Bulldogs averaging double-digit points per game. On the glass, Shacobia Barbee leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per outing.
 
THE SERIES:
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Owls and the Bulldogs. UGA is 25-12 against Atlantic Sun Conference teams, with all 12 losses coming at the hands of Mercer.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team dropped a 68-32 decision to Middle Tennessee State on Thursday afternoon (Dec. 12) at the Murphy Center. Junior guard Kristina Wells led the Owls with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds.
 
Thursday's contest was Education Day at MTSU with an attendance of 10,028, most of them school children. It was the fourth largest in program history for the Blue Raiders.
 
NEXT UP:
Kennesaw State returns home for its final contest before the Christmas holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 21 as the Owls battle Columbia at 2 p.m. ET at the KSU Convocation Center.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Owls on TV
This season the Owls will play a total of 13 games on the ESPN3 network, including 10 at the KSU Convocation Center, and one on CSS, the most televised games in program history. Owl fans will get the chance to watch the team against Georgia as the game will be aired on TV on CSS, as well as the ESPN3 platform on Sunday.
 
Rebounding Strong
The Owls continue to rank in the top four in several rebounding categories in the Atlantic Sun Conference, including ranking first in offensive rebounding percentage (.373), as well as ranking second in rebounding defense (37.0/game) and fourth in rebounding margin (+2.2) and offensive rebounds (14.3/game). For the season, KSU is outrebounding its competition 314 to 296.
 
Wells Leading the Way
Junior guard Kristina Wells has been the consistent force behind the Owls and ranks in the top four in the Atlantic Sun Conference in steals (2.1 spg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). Wells' 12.8 points per game also rank 13th in the A-Sun.
 
Last Five Games
In the past five games, Wells has averaged just shy of a double-double with 13.6 points and 9.2 boards per contest to go along with 2.8 steals per game. For the season, she owns three double-doubles.
 
Sawyers Strong Offensively
Freshman guard Deandrea Sawyers is averaging a team-high 15.4 points per game in the last five games, including back-to-back 24-point outings against Jacksonville State and Murray State, as well as shooting 38.5 percent from beyond-the-arc while averaging two three-pointers per contest.
 
Dixon on the Boards
Junior forward Valescia Dixon ranks 16th in the A-Sun with 5.6 rebounds per game, including averaging 2.6 offensive rebounds per contest, which sits ninth in the league.
