MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State women's basketball team dropped a 68-32 decision to Middle Tennessee State on Thursday afternoon (Dec. 12) at the Murphy Center.

Thursday's contest was Education Day at MTSU (6-3) with an attendance of 10,028, most of them school children. It was the fourth largest in program history for the Blue Raiders.

Junior guard Kristina Wells led the Owls (1-7) with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds.

KSU jumped out quickly at the start with a 4-1 lead in the first three minutes of the contest with back-to-back buckets from Wells and junior forward Valescia Dixon.

The Blue Raiders then used a 12-0 run to gain the momentum back from the Owls, going up 13-4 before a layup at the 10:29 mark of the first half from freshman forward Gratia Brooks stopped the MTSU run.

A Wells layup with 9:51 remaining moved the Owls to within seven, before MTSU outscored KSU 19-4 in the final 10 minutes of the half to enter intermission leading 34-12.

KSU opened the second half on a positive note as freshman guard Deandrea Sawyers scored her first points of the contest on a three-pointer less than two minutes into the half. MTSU then used a 20-1 run over the next 10 minutes to put the game out of reach and cruised to the 68-32 victory.

The Owls were hampered by 34 turnovers, which resulted in 32 points for the Blue Raiders.

Sawyers totaled six points on a pair of treys in the contest, while Dixon and freshman guard Taylor Blackmon added five points each. Freshman forward Chloe Branch grabbed four boards on the defensive end for the Owls.

Redshirt-senior Lisa Capellan made her season debut after returning from injury and notched four steals in 15 minutes of action.

Ebony Rowe led MTSU with 16 points and four rebounds in the win.

The Owls will next wrap-up their two-game road trip with a 2 p.m. ET contest against No. 16/17 Georgia in Athens, Ga., on Sunday, Dec. 15.
