Jacksonville, Fla. – The Owls volleyball team ended the weekend 1-1 after losing a tough match to Jacksonville 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) on Saturday, November 9.

"First off, credit goes to Jacksonville," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "They played a very consistent, high-level match like they've done all year, which is why they're near the top of the conference standings. After a very slow start for us in games one and two, we competed much harder, executed much better, and started to challenge Jacksonville in set three. Against a quality team like that on the road you have to have that mentality from point one. We talked about at least going 1-1 this weekend, which we did, so we're excited to come back home and finish our regular season against Mercer on Saturday."

The Dolphins grabbed an early four-point lead in the first set before the Owls went on a 6-3 run capped by a kill from freshman Kelly Marcinek to get within one. Despite getting within one, Jacksonville would close out the set 25-18.

In the second set, Keyaira Stevenson got one of her five kills to bring the score within three at 10-7, but Jacksonville would go on to win the set 25-17.

The Owls came out in the third set and grabbed a 5-4 lead on another Marcinek kill. Later in the set, KSU would go on a three-point run to bring the score to 19-16, but the Dolphins closed out the match 25-19.

After the Jacksonville match, Kennesaw State's record is 12-15 overall and 7-10 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Sara Metroka led the team with 26 assists while Camille Pedraza finished with nine digs. Marcinek and sophomore Cierra Royster led the team with seven kills.

The Owls will finish off the regular season at home against in-state rival Mercer next Saturday, November 16 at 3 P.M.
