CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women's basketball team opened up its season Friday night (Nov. 8) at the TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. Even with a strong performance from junior
Ty-Nita Baker, the Owls fell short 87-66 to College of Charleston.
Baker posted an impressive 23 points during her Kennesaw State debut. Junior
Kristina Wells scored 13 points while freshman
Chloe Branch, also making her Kennesaw State debut, came in with 12.
"There was a bright spot in Branch," said head coach
Nitra Perry.
After being outscored 47-27 in the first half, Kennesaw State was able to cut the College of Charleston lead down to 67-55 midway through the second half before the Cougars ultimately took the win.
"This was definitely a team that proved to be a great early test and exposed some things that we need to get better at," Perry said. "We shot 23 free throws to the other team's 11. But defensively we did not play well as a team. We did not get it done."
The Cougars shot 51.3 percent from the field in the first half and finished by scoring 48.1 percent of their field goal attempts.
Senior Allysa Frye posted 27 points to lead College of Charleston.
Kennesaw State plays its home opener against Tennessee State on Monday, Nov. 11 at the KSU Convocation Center. The game begins at 7 p.m. ET.
