THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team will officially open their 2013-14 season on Friday, Nov. 8 as the Owls travel to Charleston, S.C., to face the College of Charleston. Tip is set for 8 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena.

THE OPPONENT:
College of Charleston
The Cougars return three starters from a 16-16 season a year ago and are looking to build upon their Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) appearance where they advanced to the second round. The Cougars are moving conferences in 2013-14, transitioning from the Southern Conference to the Colonial Athletic Conference. They are coming off a convincing 81-54 exhibition victory over Lander University on Sunday.
 
THE SERIES:
KSU trails the College of Charleston in the overall series, with the Cougars holding a 2-0 advantage against the Owls. The two teams last met in 2008 when the Cougars took an 86-79 win over the Owls on Nov. 22 in Kennesaw.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Owls used a total team effort to defeat Talladega College, 70-50, in its first and only exhibition game of the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the KSU Convocation Center. KSU was led by freshman guard Deandrea Sawyers with a game-high 17 points to go along with three steals, as well as double-doubles from junior guard Ty-Nita Baker (12 points, 10 rebounds), freshman forward Chloe Branch (10 points, 13 rebounds) and junior forward Valescia Dixon (10 points, 12 rebounds).
 
KSU is looking to improve upon a 2012-13 season that saw the team go 7-24 in head coach Nitra Perry's first season with the Owls.
 
NEXT UP:
The Owls next return to Kennesaw for its 2013-14 home opener on Monday, Nov. 11 as KSU takes on the Tennessee State Tigers at the KSU Convocation Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m. (ET).
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
The New Look Owls
Individually, the Owls return four letter winners from last season's squad, including starting guard Kristina Wells, as well as redshirt-senior forward Lisa Capellan, junior guard Bria Young and sophomore guard Nicole Adams. KSU welcomes in 11 newcomers to the 2013-14 team, including junior college transfers Ty-Nita Baker and Valescia Dixon, and eight talented freshmen. West Georgia Breonna Mosely also joins the Owls, but will sit out the 2013-14 season per NCAA rules.
 
Wells Takes the Lead
One of the top returners in the Atlantic Sun Conference, Wells ranked in the top 15 in the league in scoring, rebounding, assists, free throw percentage, offensive and defensive rebounds, as well as ranking fourth in minutes played and ninth in steals a season ago. She led KSU with 46 steals and ranked second on the team with 10.7 points per game and 57 assists.
 
Owls on TV
This season the Owls will play a total of 13 games on the ESPN3 network, including 10 at the KSU Convocation Center, and one on CSS, the most televised games in program history.
 
Perry's Second Season
Head coach Nitra Perry begins her second season at the helm of KSU women's basketball after her head coaching debut a year ago. Perry earned her first win as a head coach on Nov. 21, 2012 with a 72-65 win over Troy in Kennesaw.
