Kennesaw, Ga. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named Kat Morton, a newly signed Kennesaw State student-athlete, an Under Armour All-American for 2013.

The 100 players selected for this year's honors represent 33 states and 90 high schools. Many have already committed to play collegiate volleyball at some of the top programs in the country.

"It feels amazing," Morton said on receiving the honor. "It's just one of those things that you're so grateful to have and you know all of your hard work in high school has paid off."

Morton is a libero out of Pearland, Texas, who was also named the Defensive Player of the Year in District 22-5A has had a wildly successful four years in high school. The highly decorated defensive player was an All-District player all four seasons on the court and was part of the USA Volleyball Youth National Training Team after her junior year.

"We're incredibly excited for Kat to be named an AVCA Under Armour High School All-American," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "Not only have her fantastic skills and work ethic earned her this award, but she also embodies exactly what it means to be a true student-athlete.  Kat is a positive, high character, driven young women who has set herself up to successfully enter college and smoothly transfer both her on the court skills as well as the many off the court demands that a Division I student-athlete encounters daily."

When Morton enrolls at Kennesaw State she will be the first UA All-American in the volleyball team's short history.

"We could not be more proud of Kat for this award and are thrilled that she will be putting on an Owl jersey next fall," Schunzel said.

Morton is part of a recruiting class with five signees that will be part of the 2014 roster and she can't wait to get on campus to get to work.

"I'm super excited," Morton said. "I know that our whole game is going to change when we have all of the incoming freshmen. We've been texting and are all really friendly with each other. It doesn't stop. There is only one way to go and that's up, so why not just get better."
