KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State soccer team pushed its winning streak to four matches as the Owls earned a 3-1 win over USC Upstate at County University Stadium on Friday, Oct. 4. Redshirt-junior forward Katrina Frost poured in a pair of goals and added an assist on freshman midfielder Monica Herrera's first career goal.

After dangerous scoring opportunities in the first half from the KSU forwards, Frost put the Owls (6-5-0, 3-0-0) up 1-0 in the 32nd minute. After receiving the ball from redshirt-junior defender Jewelia Strickland on a short corner kick service, redshirt-freshman defender Brittney Reed crossed the ball towards the back post of the Upstate goal, where junior midfielder Nicole Calder headed the ball to Frost, who redirected the ball into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.

KSU added to its lead just seven minutes into the second half as Frost notched her fourth goal in 2013 on a 30-yard bomb that sailed over Upstate goalkeeper Sarah Plantz after receiving a pass from senior defender Kelsey Barr.

Freshman midfielder Monica Herrera then put an exclamation point on the win with her first career goal in the 80th minute after Frost and junior Iyani Hughes combined to slot the ball past the goal mouth to Herrera who passed the ball into the goal.

USC Upstate (3-6-2, 0-2-0) notched a late goal from Mollie Waters in the 88th minute to push the final score to 3-1.

The Owls totaled 19 shots with 11 on frame, while the Spartans tallied five shots, with three shots on goal. Frost led the KSU offense with five shots, including three on goal, while Calder added four shots.

KSU earned four corners in the match, with Upstate earning two. Both teams combined for 11 fouls.
