MEET: UAB Blazer Invitational
DATES: Jan. 10 - 11
SITE: Birmingham CrossPlex
LOCATION: Birmingham, Ala.

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State track and field teams return to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the Blazer Invitational for the second consecutive year.  The events marks the second meet of the 2012-13 Indoor season, and the first of the New Year for the Black and Gold.

“This meet is at the same facility as the BSC Invite so we are familiar with the venue. We’re limited on how many athletes we can enter for indoor meets, so we’re going to enter some various athletes in different events to give them opportunities to develop across the spectrum,” Head Coach Andy Eggerth said. “We look at each indoor competition as a training opportunity to prepare for the conference championship, so its just gravy if we’re breaking records in the process. This competition will provide a good opportunity to see how our holiday training went. It’s simply the most specific form of training that we can do…lining up against other competitors and doing our thing.”

FACILITY:
The meet will be held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The new state-of-the-art indoor track stadium features seating for 4,000 fans, a 200-meter hydraulically banked Mondo Super X track, eight-lane sprint track and double runways and rings for all field events.

LAST TIME OUT:
On the men’s side, Rasmus Rooks set a personal best with a time of 6.95 to finish ninth in the 60m dash, while newcomers showcased their skills in the 200m dash as freshmen Reagan Beal finished sixth at 22.28, and Zac Davis placed 12th, with his best time coming in the preliminaries at 22.30. For the women, sophomore Kentrell White set the KSU record in the 200m with her fifth place finish and time of 24.83.

The distance runners for each program established their mark on the 2012-13 campaign as both the men’s and women’s distance quartets claimed first place honors. In the mile run, #Blair O’ Bryant# earned second place with a pace of 4:34.99, while Ryan Burruss finished on his heels at 4:36.99 in third place. Andzelika Bobrova earned her way into the KSU record book with an 800m time of 2:15.86 to finish third. Also setting a KSU record in his first collegiate meet, Zac Davis ran a record time of 49.10 in the 400m to place fifth.

The throwers came out strong in their debut by setting five personal records. Shannon Hooper led the talented group with a 16.67m toss in the weight throw to earn sixth place, whereas senior captain Suzee Mills took seventh place with a final throw of 16.59m, and a prelim throw of 17.01. Freshman Robert Harvey was impressive in his first collegiate outing as he jumped into fourth place in the KSU record book with a shot put toss of 16.00m to finish eighth at the meet.

2012 BLAZER INVITATIONAL:
The 2012 Blazer Invitational brought much success for the Kennesaw State Owls as multiple athletes entered the KSU record book. Sophomore Alicia Whittle set the school record in the 60m dash with a time of 7.60. Others to break into the top five at the meet were the women’s 4x400m relay team of LaTia Daniels, Alicia Whittle, Kentrell White and Sydney Williams with a time of 3.53.43 to sit second all-time. For the men, Reggie Lewis raced into third all-time in the 200m Oversized Bank Track with a time of 21.93, while Casey Reynolds inserted himself fifth with a shot put throw of 50-8.25 feet.

The Kennesaw State track and field program has been one of the top programs since its first year of competition in 2005. The men have dominated the A-Sun Track & Field competition, winning the outdoor conference three of the last four years (2008-2010-2011), and have been crowned Indoor Conference Champions in 2008, 2010, and most recently in 2012. The Kennesaw State women’s Track & Field program is on the cusp of becoming a perennial powerhouse of the Atlantic Sun Conference after posting runner-up finishes in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2009, 2010 and 2012. The team is led by third year Head Coach Andy Eggerth, a two-time men’s Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year and 2012 Women's Indoor Coach of the Year.
