KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State had no trouble in the opening day of the KSU Owls Invitational, completing 3-0 sweeps over North Carolina Central and Tennessee State in the team’s 2012 home opener.

The Tigers of Tennessee State proved no trouble for the Owls in the final match of day one as the Owls flew away with the 3-0 win (25-22, 25-12, 25-21), hitting .402 as a team in the process.
Senior Baylee Strachan (Sioux City, Iowa/Winthrop) collected an impressive five blocks and 10 kills in the ballgame, adding to the offensive efforts by Turea Jones (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) and Keyaira Stevenson (Columbia, S.C./Ridgeview High School) who each finished with 13 kills as well.
The Owls now sit at 6-3 on the year after the two wins with a pair of games tomorrow against Tennessee-Chattanooga and Troy.
KSU came out swinging in their first appearance at the KSU Convocation Center, going up 6-2 on an Emily Bean kill in the opening set. The Owls then scored the final three points of the round to take it, 25-22.
The second set was much the same, with Kennesaw State grabbing a quick 7-2 lead. A 9-1 run then gave the Owls the 25-12 win on an attack error by the Tigers.
Stevenson gave the Owls a 10-5 lead in the third and final set of the match with a kill and an assist from Sara Metroka (New Castle, Ind./New Castle Chrysler High School). A late TSU run was not enough to hold off the Black and Gold as head coach Karen Weatherington’s team took the set and the match, 25-21.
Metroka had a match high 42 assists while libero Camille Pedraza (Marietta, Ga./Kell High School) came up with 11 digs.

Jones totaled 10 kills and nine digs to lead Kennesaw State to a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-22, 25-16) over North Carolina during opening day play of the Owls Classic at the KSU Convocation Center on Friday.
The win improved the Owls to 5-3 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 1-9.
Dayana Arufat Rondon and Christine Anthony each recorded eight kills to lead North Carolina Central.
Kennesaw State came out strong in the first set as the Owls posted a .526 hitting percentage, registering 11 kills on 19 attempts with just one error. KSU finished the game with a .321 attack percentage.
North Carolina Central managed just a .040 hitting percentage in the opening set and finished the contest hitting just .023.
The Owls will take on Tenn.-Chattanooga at noon tomorrow with a night cap against Troy set for 7 p.m.
