FINAL RESULTS

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –
The Kennesaw state men’s tennis team wrapped up play at its second tournament of the fall season as four Owls collected singles wins at the UTC Steve Fall Classic at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.

“We played some very good tennis this weekend,” said Head Coach #T.J. Greggs#. “While the results were not what we hoped for, sometimes it is more about how much your game has grown, and I feel like every week we are getting better.”

Sophomores Alex Toliver (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral HS) and Louis Theodor (Jakarta, Indonesia/Jubilee School), along with freshman Jorge Wilton (Ashtead, England/Reeds School) each posted first round singles wins, before dropping their second round matches.

Toliver notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory over UNCG’s Ahmet Sarioglu in flight one, while Wilton registered a 6-1, 6-3 win against Jackson Pride of The Citadel. Theodor advanced to the second round by virtue of an injury withdraw from Samford’s Fares Kilani.

Sophomore Alexander Pena (Johns Creek, Ga./Lambert HS) rebounded after his first round loss to defeat Lee’s Daniel Hardesty 6-1, 6-3 in his first round consolation match, before falling in the second round of the consolation draw.

Freshmen Tobi Menhofer (Pfronten, Germany/Gymnasium Hohenschwangau) and Maksim Yorsh (Minsk, Belarus/R.S.C.O.R), as well as sophomore Matthew Johnson (Roswell, Ga./Roswell HS) finished the tournament with two losses each.

In doubles action, Yorsh and Wilton combined for an 8-6 win over UTC’s Ankit Chopra and Stephen Crofford in flight three, before withdrawing due to injury.

Pena and Toliver posted an 8-3 victory in flight two, before falling 8-2 to ETSU’s Juanca Ramirez and Jorge Varon.

Menhofer and Theodor dropped their opening round doubles match in flight one, but rebounded for a 8-4 defeat of Lipscomb’s Colby Shaw and David Salazar. The pair then fell to UTC’s Chris Smith and Roberto Vieira 9-8 (5) to conclude the tournament.

Kennesaw State next heads to Statesboro, Ga., for the Georgia Southern Invitational on Friday, Oct. 5 to Sunday, Oct. 7.
