KENNESAW, Ga. – In the inaugural meeting between Kennesaw State volleyball and Northern Kentucky it was the Norse who came out on top, taking down the Owls 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 22-25) to end KSU’s five game home stand.

The loss drops KSU to 12-7 on the year and 2-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference while NKU holds a 16-2 record overall and a 4-1 mark in its first season in the A-Sun.

The Owls will play their final non-conference game of 2012 when the team heads to Montgomery, Ala. for a match against Alabama State this Tuesday at 7 p.m.

KSU kept pace with the potent Norse offense in the first set until the 18-14 mark, when NKU clipped off a 7-0 run to take the opening set, 25-14. The Owls picked up three blocks in the set, two of those by senior Baylee Strachan (Sioux City, Iowa/Winthrop).

The Owls never lead in the second set but did manage to tie things up five times, the last of which occurred at 7-7 with a kill from setter Sara Metroka (New Castle, Ind./New Castle Chrystler HS). After a 4-0 run by the Norse, KSU managed to get back within one point at 14-13, but couldn’t hold off NKU as the Norse took a 25-18 set win.

Set three was the closest of the match with KSU holding a 20-19 lead late after an Emily Bean (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike HS) kill. Tied at 21 it was the Norse who came out on top, scoring four of the last five points to take the match.

Bean led the offensive charge for the Owls with 10 kills and a .286 attack percentage with teammate Turea Jones (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) notching nine kills and eight digs.

Camille Pedraza (Marietta, Ga./Kell HS) again led both teams in digs with her 12 while Metroka aided with 29 assists.

The Owls will be back in A-Sun action next weekend as the team hits the road for a pair of games at Jacksonville and North Florida.
