CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team made it a 2-1 weekend at the Charlotte 49er Invitational, defeating UNC-Asheville 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-13) in the late match after dropping its first match in five games to Towson earlier in the day, 3-0 (19-25, 27-25, 14-25).

Sara Metroka (New Castle, Ind./New Castle Chrysler High School) and outside hitter
Emily Bean (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike High School) each earned All-Tournament Team honors as Metroka earned 85 assists and Bean totaled 20 kills, 13 digs and three blocks.
Kennesaw State now sits at 10-4 and will start off conference play later this week.
The Owls picked up a big performance from senior
Turea Jones (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) to wrap up their time in Charlotte with the straight set win over Asheville.
Jones was good for 12 kills and eight digs while hitting .375 for the match.
In what was a back-and-forth first set, the Owls broke the Bulldogs with a Jones kill to put Kennesaw State up one at 11-10 midway through. The Owls then took control, scoring four straight on the
Cierra Royster (Mableton, Ga./Cumburland Christian) serve to take it, 25-18.
At 20-20 in the second set the Owls again pulled through in the clutch, this time with an Asheville attack error followed by Bean and Jones kills to put KSU up, 23-20. Royster then closed out the set four plays later, 25-22.
In the third set, the Owls scored eight of the last eleven points, including a 6-0 run, to take the match on yet another Jones kill.
The black and gold hit an impressive .316 for the match while holding the Bulldogs to a .143 mark.
The Owls will now start Atlantic Sun Conference play on Tuesday, as they host USC Upstate at 7 p.m. for the league opener for both squads.
