SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team dropped their final match at the Tiger Invitational, losing in three sets to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore 25-22, 25-17, and 25-16 to go to 4-3 on the season.
The opening set was the most competitive of the match as each team traded kills and errors. It was after the 16-all mark in the set when the Hawks picked up their net play, picking up three consecutive kills to go on top 19-16.
Head coach Karen Weatherington would call a timeout that stopped the rally and allowed the Owls to get back in the set. Battling to make it a 22-20 contest, Saitaua Iosia would put the Hawks on her back and served out the set to win 25-22.
Kennesaw State came out tentative to open the second set, falling behind early, 12-7. The Owls would get with in six of the Hawks late in the set, but after a kill by the Hawks and a service error by KSU, UMES would receive a kill from Maline Vaitai to go up 2-0.
In the third set, UMES turned it up a notch and took the match with a 25-16 win. Closing out the set on a 12-7 run, the Hawks gave the Owls their third loss of the Invitational.
Kennesaw State will play their first home match on Friday, Sept. 7, when the team takes on North Carolina Central in the opening round of the KSU Owls Invitational. The match is slated for 12 pm, with the second match against Tennessee State following at 7pm.
