KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State soccer team concludes its season-opening four-match home stand as No. 21 Tennessee visits KSU Stadium on Friday, Aug. 31 for the 2012 College Colors match at 7 p.m. ET.  KSU then heads to Fayetteville, Ark., for its first road match of the season against the second Southeastern Conference opponent of the weekend, Arkansas, on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m., at Razorback Field.

Fans are encouraged to wear their Black and Gold on Friday in support of the Owls, with the first 150 fans receiving a free t-shirt in honor of College Colors Day 2012.

Live stats, along with video and audio streaming will be available for Friday’s match via ksuowls.com. Video will be streamed through ASun.TV, while audio will be streamed via ksuowls.com All Access.  Both services are free for fans.  Live stats and video will also be available for Sunday’s road match, along with a live blog of the contest on ksuowls.com.

Despite a record crowd of 2,683 vocal fans, Kennesaw State (1-2-0) dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to crosstown rival Georgia State as the Panther’s Whitney Raven scored the game-winning goal with less than 40 second remaining in the match on Friday night at KSU Stadium.  Freshman Danielle Gray (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh HS) continued her strong play, scoring the lone Owls goal off of sophomore Julia Nelson’s (Marietta, Ga./Hillgrove HS) corner kick in the 83rd minute.

Tennessee enters the match at 4-0-0 and is ranked in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll for the first time this season.  Like the Owls, the Tennessee defense has been tough to score on in 2012 with three shutouts and just one goal allowed over its first four matches. The last time an opponent scored on the Lady Vols was 6:33 into their 4-1 win at Western Kentucky on Aug. 19, 2012.

While this will be the first meeting between the two schools, Tennessee Head Coach Brian Pensky has faced KSU once before.  In 2010, Pensky’s Maryland squad tallied a 4-0 win over the Owls in the 2010 First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic at Regal Soccer Stadium.  UT is led by midfielder Amy Harrison, with four goals in 295 minutes and forward Caroline Brown, with two game-winning goals and four assists in 298 minutes of action.  Julie Eckel (4-0-0, 0.24 goal-against average) is in goal for Tennessee.

This will also be KSU’s first-ever meeting with Arkansas (3-1-0). After three-straight home wins, the Razorbacks dropped their first match of the season on the road against SMU last Sunday. Ashleigh Ellenwood leads the Razorbacks offensively, with three points on a goal and an assist, while eight other Arkansas players have registered a point. Kelly Roliard has played every minute in goal for the Razorbacks and owns a 1.25 GAA with five goals given up in 2012.  She has also tallied 13 saves on the season.

Arkansas is coming of a 4-14-0 season in 2011, including a 2-9-0 conference mark and a sixth place finish in the SEC West Division. The Razorbacks return seven starters, while losing four.  They also welcome in 11 newcomers in 2012.

The Owls continue their road swing next weekend with a trip to Charleston, S.C., for the 2012 College of Charleston Cup.  Kennesaw State will face off against Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m., followed by a match-up against South Florida on Sunday, Sept. 9 at Noon.

Season tickets for soccer are available for just $21 for all seven regular-season home contests, with general admission seating in the stadium.  Tickets can be purchased online at ksuowls.com, by clicking the “Purchase Tickets” link in the middle of the website, or by calling the athletics ticket office at (770) 423-6957.  Following Friday’s contest, season tickets will drop to $18 for the remaining six matches.
