Game Notes
KENNESAW, Ga. – After an 11-day layoff, the Kennesaw State baseball team is set to return to action on Friday as it travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate in a pivotal three-game series with postseason positioning on the line.
As of Friday afternoon, the Black and Gold are right in the middle of a very crowded, and tight, Atlantic Sun Conference playoff picture. The Owls (28-20, 12-9 A-Sun) currently sit in third place in the league standings. With only six conference games remaining, KSU is three games back of first-place USC Upstate (32-14, 15-6 A-Sun), but on the flip side the Owls are only two games away from missing the postseason entirely.
With that being said Kennesaw State has to focus their attention on this weekend’s series as the Spartans pose a very tough challenge for the Owls as they have won 11 of their last 14 overall games.
The Black and Gold look to finish out their 2012 campaign strong as they are currently 2-3 in their five games. They took down UAB and Savannah State on April 24th & 25th, but are coming off a tough series their last time out as the offense couldn’t find its rhythm as they fell to Florida Gulf Coast.
Kennesaw State looks to power its way past the Spartans as it is currently second in the conference in team batting average at .291, and it is also second in team doubles with 88. Junior
Andy Almonte has picked up his game at the right time for KSU as he currently boasts a team-leading .356 batting average in conference play, to go along with three homeruns and 18 RBI.
The Owls took two out of three games from USC Upstate last season, and they are 36-10 all-time against the Spartans.
Head Coach
Mike Sansing will throw junior
