KENNESAW, Ga. – The No. 3 seeded Kennesaw State baseball team is set to make its second consecutive postseason appearance as it is ready to make a deep run in the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, which begins on Wednesday in DeLand, Fla. at Melching Field at Conrad Park.

The Owls (31-23, 15-11 A-Sun) are scheduled to take on No. 4 seed Florida Gulf Coast (24-29, 15-12 A-Sun) at 3 p.m. on day one of the tournament. If the Black and Gold win they advance in the winner’s bracket to play the winner of the No. 2 USC Upstate vs. No. 5 Mercer game, but if they should fall to FGCU then KSU would take on the winner of the No. 1 Belmont vs. No. 6 Stetson matchup in an elimination game.

Kennesaw State will be looking to earn it’s first-ever A-Sun Tournament victory as it dropped both contests last postseason. KSU will reverse its tournament fortunes if its offense continues to play at the high level that has led to an average of 6.2 runs a game over its past six games. The Black and Gold finished the regular season third in the A-Sun in batting average (.291), runs scored (328) and homeruns (40).

For a team to have success in the playoffs their stars need to shine, and that is exactly what junior Ronnie Freeman has done in his brief postseason career. In his two games in the A-Sun Tournament Freeman has gone 6-for-9 with a homerun, two runs scored and two RBI. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native was also on a tear to end the season as he hit .411 (30-for-73) over his final 18 games of the regular season.

Speaking of stars, Kennesaw State’s day one game will feature an outstanding pitching matchup as Josh Carr (3.54, 9-2), who is 26th in the nation in wins, will face off against FGCU’s Ricky Knapp (2.12, 8-4), who led the A-Sun in ERA this season.
