Game Notes

KENNESAW, Ga. – After 51 games, and three grueling months, it all comes down to the final three games of the 2012 season for the Kennesaw State baseball team as it gets set to host East Tennessee State starting on Thursday evening.

The Owls (29-22, 13-10 A-Sun) find themselves right in the middle of an intense playoff race as the 2012 regular season is set to come to a close. The way that the Atlantic Sun Conference formats its baseball conference tournament is only the top six teams are eligible for postseason play and as of today the Owls are currently in fifth place. KSU sit just a half game back of Belmont for third place in the league standings, but it also is only a game and a half up on Florida Gulf Coast who is in seventh place.

Last time out, KSU couldn’t overcome some key miscues as it fell to Georgia Southern on Tuesday evening, 7-3. The loss moved the Owls record to 6-6 against Peach State teams this season. Senior Will Howard was the bright spot for the Black and Gold offensively as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

For Kennesaw State to ensure its spot in the postseason it has to take advantage of the matchup between its offense and East Tennessee State’s (22-30, 7-17 A-Sun) pitching. The Black and Gold are the second-best hitting team in the league as they sport a .293 team batting average, while the ETSU pitching staff has recorded a 4.36 ERA which is eighth in the conference.

The Owls hold a 10-8 edge in the all-time series over the Bucs, including winning two out of three last season. Senior Andy Chriscaden has had great success against ETSU in his career as he is hitting .417 (5-for-12) with two homeruns, six RBI’s and four runs scored in three games.

Head Coach Mike Sansing will throw senior Josh Carr on Thursday, junior Kevin Kyle on Friday and sophomore Travis Dean on Saturday.

Thursday will also be Thirsty Thursday Night at Stillwell Stadium as all Cokes will only cost one dollar. Live video/audio can be viewed on A-Sun TV and KSU All-Access.
