MARIETTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team had its three-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as it fell to Mercer, 6-1, at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center.

The loss drops the Owls to 10-9 (1-4 A-Sun) on the year, while the win improves the Bears to 4-9 (1-4 A-Sun) for the season.

Mercer took the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. KSU got its lone win at the No. 3 spot as the freshman duo of Alexander Pena and Alex Toliver won, 8-3.

In singles play, Kennesaw State dropped five of the six singles matches. Junior Gokalp Ozdemir provided the Black and Gold’s singles win as he came back from a set down to win 5-7, 6-1, 1-0(7) at the No. 5 spot.

Toliver nearly had a comeback win of his own at the No. 2 spot leading 3-6, 6-0, 6-5, but he cramped up and had to retire due to injury.

Even with Saturday’s loss, the weekend was a historic one for the men’s tennis team as its win over Jacksonville State on Friday gave KSU 10 wins on the season. The 10 wins is a new program record for most overall wins in a single season.

Kennesaw State will look to get back on track on Apr. 6 as it travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate.
