KENNESAW, Ga.- The Kennesaw State baseball team would fall 7-6 in extra innings to Western Carolina on Wednesday night at Stillwell Stadium
The Owls (15-11) would have to come from behind again on Wednesday after falling behind 3-0. The Owls rallied and took the lead in the sixth inning, but a timely first career homerun by Julian Riggins and a double to right field would put the Catmounts (18-8) on top.
KSU’s first run of the game would come in the fifth inning when
Andy Chriscaden hit his fifth homerun in six games. A solo shot that carried the right field wall for the seniors 32nd RBI of the season.
The Black and Gold would add four more runs in the sixth inning to take the lead 5-3.
Will Howard would rip a two RBI single up the middle to tie things up, while
Max Pentecost would rope a two RBI triple down the left field line to put KSU up.
Western Carolina would strike for two runs in the seventh inning when relief pitcher Caden Fergusson walked two Catamounts with the bases loaded. All knotted up at five apiece; the tie would be broken when Chriscaden hit a towering homerun that landed on top of the
Bailey softball complex. His sixth homerun in as many games, Chriscaden would regain the lead for the Owls as he brings his homerun total to eight on the season, good enough for 14th in the nation.
After Riggins solo shot that sent the game to extra innings, the Catamounts would add the game winning run in the 10th inning on a RBI double by Bradley Strong. Sitting the Owls down in order in the bottom of the 10th, WCU would take game two, 7-6.
Kennesaw combined to walk 13 Catamounts and have one hits batsman, while the offense collected nine hits. Including Chriscaden’s two homeruns,
Chris McGowan, Pentecost and Howard all had a multi-hit night.
“Considering the amount of walks we issued, I thought we did a good job of staying in the game,” head coach Mike Sansing said. “We had our opportunities and we didn’t capitalize. We have to win the close ones, but we will regroup and be ready for North Florida this weekend.”
The Owls welcome UNF in for a three game series beginning with the first pitch on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Saturday’s game will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Sundays starting at 1:00 p.m. Senior
Josh Carr will be on the mound to open the series as the leader in the Atlantic Sun Conference is in search of his sixth consecutive win.
