JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Kennesaw State baseball team continued its solid start in Atlantic Sun Conference play as it took the series opener over Jacksonville, 9-2, at Sessions Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves Kennesaw State to 13-9 (3-1 A-Sun) for the season, while the loss drops Jacksonville to 10-13 (0-1 A-Sun) on the year. Saturday also marked the seventh time in KSU’s last eight games in which it has scored six or more runs in a game.

Senior Josh Carr was the story on Saturday as he won his fifth straight decision with maybe one of his most dominating pitching performances of his career. The Snellville, Ga. native pitched a complete game, while striking out a career-high eight batters and only allowing two runs to one of the A-Sun’s most potent offenses. With the win Carr moves to 5-1 on the season as he now leads the conference in victories.

Carr got plenty of support early on in the game as Kennesaw State exploded out of the gates scoring six runs on six hits in the top of the first inning. Senior Andy Chriscaden provided the clutch hit in the inning crushing his team-leading fourth home run of the season over the left field fence to drive in three runs.

Another highlight of the first inning is when senior Aaron Dobbs recorded two singles in the inning as the Black and Gold batted around, sending 10 men to the plate in the frame. In his last five games, the Warner Robbins, Ga. native is hitting .455 (10-for-22) with five walks, five stolen bases and eight runs scored.

Carr was touched up for a run in the bottom of the first as preseason All-American Adam Brett Walker hit an RBI single, but that is all the Dolphins would get as Carr locked in after that.

The Black and Gold put the game out of reach scoring another run in the second inning and two more runs in the third to make the score 9-1 after three innings. Junior Ronnie Freeman recorded an RBI in the third inning as he now has nine RBI in his last five games.

Kennesaw State will wrap up its series against Jacksonville starting tomorrow afternoon as game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. Game three will follow noon match-up and will be a contest of seven innings.
